Todd Villines named editor-in-chief of Journal of Cardiovascular
Computed Tomography

Arlington, VA (December 30, 2019) — Todd C. Villines, MD, MSCCT, has been selected for a five-year term as the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT). 


JCCT is the official journal of the Society of the Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT). The peer-reviewed journal integrates the entire international cardiovascular CT community including cardiologists and radiologists, from basic to clinical academic researchers, to private practitioners, engineers, allied professionals, industry and trainees. With a 2018 impact factor of 3.316, JCCT addresses a broad range of topics effecting cardiovascular CT imaging. The major focus is on original research as well as clinical and technical aspects of cardiovascular CT. 


“Dr. Villines is a leading physician scientist in the field of cardiovascular CT and a prior president of SCCT. We are delighted that he is taking on the important task of leading JCCT” said SCCT President Dr. Ron Blankstein, MD, MSCCT. “Given his previous experience and demonstrated leadership, I am confident he will make tremendous contributions in his new role”.


Dr. Villines is currently a Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia Health System and School of Medicine where he actively practices as a clinician, multimodality imager and teaching faculty in the integrated Cardiovascular Imaging Center and advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship training program. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary and structural heart diseases using cardiovascular CT. 


A former SCCT President (2017-2018), Dr. Villines is a founding member of SCCT and has served as an Associate Editor and Executive Editor of JCCT. In addition, he served an Editorial Consultant and Guest Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging and is the immediate-past editor-in-chief of Current Cardiovascular Imaging Reports. Dr. Villines has been an active participant and leader in numerous clinical studies involving cardiovascular CT and has published over 200 papers, book chapters and books on cardiovascular CT and cardiovascular disease imaging and prevention.
