Meet Ron Blankstein, MD, MSCCT, 14th president of SCCT

Ron Blankstein is associate director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Program and director of Cardiac Computed Tomography at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

A past president of SCCT, Dr. Blankstein received the 2025 Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award for his groundbreaking contributions to preventive cardiology and his leadership in advancing cardiovascular CT.

Dr. Kavitha Chinnaiyan
Founding member of SCCT 

Meet Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD, MSCCT, 20th president of SCCT

Dr. Chinnaiyan is a cardiologist at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Heart & Vascular in Michigan.

A founding member of the Society, Dr. Chinnaiyan focuses her research endeavors on the clinical applications of cardiac CT, adoption of novel CT technology, radiation dose reduction and outcomes related to imaging.

Dr. U. Joseph Schoepf
Founding member of SCCT 

SCCT is saddened to share the passing of U. Joseph Schoepf, MD, FACR, FAHA, FNASCI, FSCBT-MR, FSCCT — described by his colleagues as a visionary leader and world-renowned cardiovascular imager.

At the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Dr. Schoepf served as director of the division of cardiovascular imaging, vice chair for research in radiology and assistant dean for clinical research, with faculty appointments in radiology, medicine and pediatrics. Dr. Schoepf's pioneering work in CT, MRI, image post-processing, and AI has transformed cardiac imaging and impacted patients worldwide.

He was a dedicated SCCT Annual Scientific Meeting faculty member through 2023, a frequent JCCT contributor and served on key SCCT initiatives.
