Joanne Olson Named Executive Director
of Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography

Vienna, Va, USA (Aug. 15, 2017) — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) Board of Directors today announced that Joanne Olson has been selected as the Society’s new executive director.

Olson is an association executive with 25 years’ experience in nonprofit management, specializing in strategy, board and committee management, communications, marketing, membership development, and sales and sponsorship.

She most recently served as the deputy executive director for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (Rockville, Maryland), the largest eye and vision research organization in the world, with some 12,000 members globally.

Olson has substantial international experience, as she has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Macedonia, Belgium, Thailand and Hong Kong. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland College Park and is pursuing a master of business administration at the Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, UK.

“Joanne has a demonstrated ability to lead small to mid-size organizations, where she has consistently developed effective strategies and new directions,” said Todd Villines, MD, FSCCT, president of SCCT.

“She has particular expertise in communications, advocacy, outreach and marketing, and this will serve the society well as we focus on ensuring policymakers in the U.S. and elsewhere understand that cardiac CT should be a primary cardiac imaging modality, aligning with the current emphasis on value-based-medicine.”

“I am confident that Joanne has the vision as well as the passion to help SCCT reach our ever-increasing potential,” added Leslee Shaw, PhD, FSCCT, immediate past president. “With a number of large, randomized clinical trials demonstrating the effectiveness of CT alongside recent and forthcoming technological advances, the field of cardiovascular CT is poised to significantly improve patient care.”

“My colleagues and I look forward to working alongside Joanne and the rest of the society’s dedicated staff and members to put SCCT at the forefront of this revolution,” said Dr. Villines.
