Hands-on/interactive workshops

AI/ML interactive workshop
July 18, 2024
Chairs: Andrew Choi, MD, MSCCT; Ed Nicol, MD, MBA, MSCCT

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are driving rapid enhancements across the spectrum of cardiovascular CT (CCT). Education gaps exist in appropriately developing, evaluating and leveraging these new AI/ML driven CCT technologies to advance the science and rapidly enhance the care of patients in international health care environment.

The workshop seeks to further appraise the current gaps in clinical care in the realm of coronary artery disease, prevention and valvular heart disease through AI/ML solutions. This workshop engages world leading experts in CCT, AI and data science to present these topics in a unique, small group format for health care leaders and physicians as well as trainees and early career professionals. Attendees that participate in this workshop will better understand the evidence generation, regulatory pathways and economic impact of AI to drive positive systematic changes in clinical practice.

Aortic and mitral intervention: Procedural planning workshop - SOLD OUT
July 17 - 18, 2024
Chairs: Jonathan Weir-McCall, MBChB, FRCR, PhD and Anna Reid, MBChB, PhD
Faculty: James Dundas, MBBS

Participants will learn how to acquire and interpret cardiovascular CT for TAVR and TMVR. Participants will learn through lectures and standardized analytical process the standardized measurements from cardiovascular CT to optimize clinical and procedural with a focus on pre-procedure planning, device selection, and avoidance of complications. In addition, the importance of post-procedural imaging evaluation of these patients will be reviewed and discussed. TAVR and TMVR will also be explored in the post-surgical setting, exploring the assessment of structural valve degeneration, and the work-up of valve in valve and valve in ring procedures.

During this course you will learn from a multi-disciplinary, expert faculty using a hands-on, case-based approach. Learners will be able to practice and apply their skills on actual cases and interact with instructors one-on-one and in small groups.

CTA Academy: Cardiac CT in routine clinical
July 17 - 18, 2024

Chairs: Russell Bull, BSc, MB Bchir, FSCCT and Srikanth Iyengar, MD

This course is aimed at both clinicians just starting out in cardiac CT as well as more advanced practitioners. It will focus of guiding the participants though a wide range of cases with ‘hands on’ instruction and interaction. Topics will include principles of CT image acquisition and optimization, how to cope with artefacts and how to deal with challenging patients including high heart rates, high BMI, challenging rhythms and those with high extensive calcified plaque and stents. In addition to cases focusing on the coronaries, a wide range of other conditions and pathologies will be included including evaluation of cardiac masses, pericardial disease, valvular and aortic pathology and important extra-cardiac conditions.

This activity is supported by an educational grant from and by in-kind support from Siemens Healthineers and GE Healthcare.

Tricuspid, pulmonic and LAAO workshop
July 18, 2024

Chairs: Omar Khalique, MD and Markus Scherer, MD
Faculty: Prabhakar Rajiah, MBBS, MD, FSCCT

In this exciting workshop, participants will interpret cardiac CTA for tricuspid valve, pulmonic valve, and left atrial appendage occlusion – the next wave of structural heart interventions. Participants will learn how to use cardiovascular CT to optimize clinical outcomes in structural heart disease with a focus on procedure planning, device selection and sizing, and avoidance of complications. During this course you will learn from a group of multi-disciplinary, expert faculty using a hands-on, case-based approach. Learners will be able to practice and apply their skills on actual cases and interact with instructors one-on-one and in small groups.

Technologist hands-on workshop
Saturday, July 20 | 8am - 12noon
Chair: Nikkole Weber, RT(R)(CT), CSCCT

Don't miss the chance to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of cardiac imaging at the SCCT2024 Technologist hands-on workshop. This 4-hour technologist workshop will focus on two main topics, ECG gating and 3D post processing. Cardiac imaging is reliant on ECG gating. In session one, attendees will get to the heart of ECG basics education, share pre-acquisition decision algorithms and post-acquisition editing guidance. This session will conclude with a case-based learning session utilizing the strategies learned. The second session will be all about cardiac post processing which will include both educational presentations and hands-on learning opportunities. The workshop will also cover the uses of AI in cardiac post processing and will end with an opportunity to practice skills learned on real cases.

Learning objectives:

  1. You will learn the fundamentals of ECG, how to optimize your acquisition parameters and edit your ECG data after the acquisition.
  2. This workshop will help you prepare for any cardiac exam.
  3. This workshop will also help you improve your clinical outcomes

Didactic courses

Congenital heart disease forum
July 18, 2024 | 12:30 - 5pm
Chair: Anjali Chelliah, MD

As management and outcomes of congenital heart disease (CHD) have improved, the population of pediatric and adult patients with CHD has grown dramatically. Concurrent improvements in cardiac CT resolution and decreases in radiation exposure have made CCT an indispensable tool for diagnosis, preoperative planning, and postoperative surveillance of CHD. Performing CCT imaging in patients with CHD is a new and evolving field that combines the knowledge and skill sets of pediatric and adult cardiology and radiology.

Learning Objectives:

1. To discuss technical aspects and challenges in performing CCT in patients with CHD, with a focus on platform- and vendor-specific approaches.
2. To review the current use of cardiac CT in planning congenital cardiac interventions.
3. To discuss the current role of CCT in assessing and managing coronary artery anomalies.
