Description
This talk discusses the challenges of developing a quality, assured cardiovascular CT service, that ensures not only optimal average doses, but also ensures the correct patient gets the correct dose, when undertaking cardiovascular CT. The talk discusses the broad issues around setting up a flat hierarchical structure with technologists and medical physics to ensure all who are involved in the acquisition and protocol management of cardiovascular CT can collaborate in a meaningful and ultimately successful manner. It highlights an approach to problem solving, the use of routinely collected data to support local service improvement and finishes with an overview of a broad quality framework in which all imaging can be assessed.

Learning objectives:
  1. To understand the importance of the multidisciplinary team (radiologists, cardiologists, technologists and medical physicists) in achieving a high quality service.
  2. To understand how to optimize protocols by using readily available data generated in your department.
  3. To understand the need to look at both overall radiation dose within a department but also on a per patient level to ensure the right dose is given to the right patient.
