SCCT updates Level 2 & 3 verification criteria

Arlington, VA (March 2, 2021) — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has updated its requirements for Level 2 and 3 verification of cardiovascular computed tomography (CCT) experience program based on both the SCCT training guideline (2020) and the COCATS 4 Task Force 7 Training Statement (2015) aligning with the 2021 Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CBCCT) eligibility changes.

Level 2 and Level 3 competency represents an individual’s experience and commitment to cardiovascular computed tomography research, education and patient care, following completion of training. The changes to the Society’s verification program comes nearly six years after the previous update. The new criteria to reach Verification of Independent Practitioners (Level 2) and Advanced Practitioners (Level 3) now includes an update in the number of cases required for each level and how the cases can be acquired.

According to Michael Winkler, MD, MSCCT, Verification Committee chair, “The new requirements for verification reflect the recommendations of the 2020 SCCT guideline for training, which is itself a reflection of the rapidly expanding knowledge base required of cardiovascular CT practitioners. Changes in verification criteria, such as an increase in the number of required proctored cases, will ensure that we maintain a high standard of care.”

SCCT offers several virtual opportunities for obtaining case credit, including Read with the Experts sessions, delivered both live and on-demand, and the interactive on-demand Level 1 CCT Training Course.

Verification is valid for 36 months, following which there is a renewal process.
