Future Leaders Program
SCCT Future Leaders Program

This three-year program aims to build a strong, more diverse leadership pipeline within SCCT and the field of cardiovascular computed tomography by providing selected junior faculty with an interactive, mentored learning experience that builds leadership skills and facilitates leadership opportunities.

Categories of leadership may include clinical investigation, advocacy or education. FLP graduates may ultimately become candidates to serve on the SCCT Board of Directors and in other leadership roles.

Structure

Each FLP participant will develop and deliver, under the guidance of their assigned mentor, a meaningful project that aligns with SCCT’s strategic goals, or provides significant value to the field of cardiac CT.

A cohort will be limited to three individuals, who will each be assigned 1 mentor for each project.

Year 1 | Prep

October – December
Goal: Solidify mentors by January 1

During this time, the newest cohort have a virtual onboarding call with co-chairs to connect project ideas with potential mentors.

  • Co-chairs will review the FLP Mentor Pool to help narrow topics and match participants with experts who can best support their project.
  • Participants will be assigned a mentor for each project proposed, to ensure support best caters to the participant's need and meets project objectives.
January – July
Goal: Solidify project(s) by Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM)

By their first ASM as FLP, the newest cohort should have spent time mapping out their projects and submitting their project proposals with their mentors.

Year 2 | Launch

First ASM in program
Goal: Launch projects

Immediately following their first ASM, participants will begin working on their projects with their mentor(s).

Second ASM in program
Halfway point

Year 3 | Graduation

January
Present projects to the SCCT Board of Directors

In their final 6 months in the program, FLP participants will present their projects to the Board. Feedback received will be applied before final presentations.

Final ASM in program
Cohort Graduation ceremony

Graduating participants will present their projects to the full FLP community, including current mentors and participants, former graduates and staff.

We asked the Cohort 2 FLP graduate to tell us about himself. Here’s what we learned.

Meet Dr. Zeb Volunteer to mentor

“Look for people that are generous, look for people that share your success; look for people that think about you more than about themselves. That's not easy to find, but when you do find them, you can feel it.

Those are the people that will take you where you need to get or want to get.”

Maros Ferencik, MD, PhD, MCR, MSCCT
SCCT President on the importance of mentors

JOIN OUR MENTOR POOL

We're inviting our current and past leaders to sign-up as part of our mentor database, agreeing to serve a 2-year term as program mentor if interests and projects align with an incoming participant. Our goal is to host a diverse selection of available experts whose insight span the cardiac imaging field.

  • FLP co-chairs will recruit mentors from our vetted pool of qualified mentors based on shared interests with prospective FLP participants.
  • Mentors and mentees will commit to engaging in regular, consistent interaction, at least monthly, throughout the year, in person, by phone, video call and/or email in order to complete the proposed project.
