Faculty Bio: Suhny Abbara

Suhny Abbara, MD, FSCCT (@SuhnyAbbara), is a board certified, fellowship trained cardiac radiologist, who completed a Radiology Residency at Georgetown University and a Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Currently he is the Chief of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Director of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship program.

Dr. Abbara has been the clinical Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Section and the Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Director of the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2003 to 2011. He has published more than 220 original manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, several book chapters and edited three major textbooks on Cardiovascular Imaging in multiple editions. He is an Editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT), has been Editor of the Cardiac Imaging section of the Year Books of Diagnostic Radiology, and is on the editorial board or is an ad-hoc reviewer for more than a dozen scientific journals.

Dr. Abbara is the SCCT Vice President and serves as the Chair of the Guidelines Committee of the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT), and as Chair of the Cardiac Panels of the American College of Radiology’s Appropriateness Criteria TM. He is Past-President of the Certification Board for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He has directed several Harvard CME Courses and has been on the program committee or has been the course director for scientific and educational conferences by national and international organizations, including the American College of Radiology, the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and others.
