ARLINGTON, VA (April 16, 2025) — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is proud to honor Damini Dey, PhD, FSCCT with the 2025 SCCT Stephan Achenbach Pioneer Award in Cardiovascular CT. This award is given annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of cardiovascular CT and have been recognized as pioneers in the advancement of the modality. SCCT is recognizing Dr. Dey for her extensive contributions to patient-specific risk prediction from quantitative CT and her research in automated Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled derivation of imaging biomarkers from cardiac images, elucidating the relationships of coronary plaque and inflammation measured by cardiac CT and their changes with therapy, machine learning integration of novel imaging biomarkers and AI-enabled cardiovascular CT for patient-specific prediction of adverse events. “We are thrilled to honor Dr. Damini Dey with the 2025 SCCT Stephan Achenbach Pioneer Award in Cardiovascular CT,” said Maros Ferencik, MD, PhD, MSCCT, president of SCCT. “Her development of AI software for characterizing coronary atherosclerotic plaque, quantification of aortic valve fibrocalcific thickening and automated measurement of epicardial adipose tissue has contributed to a variety of quantitative cardiac CT research projects that have forwarded the field.” “SCCT also honors her work as a committed mentor, supporting the work and careers of numerous MD and PhD imagers. We offer Dr. Dey our congratulations and gratitude on behalf of our members for her pioneering vision and contributions.” Dr. Dey is a professor of biomedical sciences, co-associate director at the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute and director of the Quantitative Image Analysis Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. She has published over 800 papers and is a leading expert on AI and Machine Learning (ML) in cardiovascular CT, speaking at multiple Annual Scientific Meetings (ASM), Global Meetings and SCCT Innovation Series/AI-ML workshops since 2017. An active member of the Society, Dr. Dey has served as associate editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT), chair of the SCCT Innovation Series and on the ASM Program Committee and Best Abstract Judging Panel. Named in honor of SCCT founding member and first president, Dr. Stephan Achenbach, the award will be presented to Dr. Dey at the SCCT 20th Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2025) opening session on Friday, July 18 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal in Quebec, Canada. ### About the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Founded in 2005, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is the international professional society devoted to improving health outcomes through effective use of cardiovascular computed tomography (CCT). SCCT is a community of physicians, scientists and technologists from over 85 countries advocating for access, research, education and clinical excellence in the use of CCT. For more information, please visit https://scct.org. About the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography The Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT) is a peer-review journal of the SCCT that integrates the international cardiovascular CT community and addresses a broad range of topics affecting cardiovascular CT imaging. The journal’s major focus is on original research and on the clinical and technical aspects of cardiovascular CT. For more information, please visit www.journalofcardiovascularct.com. About the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting of SCCT (SCCT2025)
SCCT2025 – the preeminent meeting focused on cardiovascular CT – will be held July 17 - 20, 2025 in Montréal, Canada. The SCCT Annual Scientific Meeting is designed to engage physicians, trainees, technologists and healthcare professionals in a complete overview of the cardiovascular CT field. Planned sessions are targeted for all levels, from new practitioners to experienced providers. Sessions range from general overviews to state-of-the-art research and expert discussions.
