Arlington, VA (March 12, 2025) – The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced plans to host the Society’s 20th Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2025) from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20 in Montréal, Canada. Pre-program courses and workshops will take place on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17.

The SCCT Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) Program Committee is currently accepting abstracts through Friday, March 14.

The 20th anniversary of the Society will feature two new tracks – Climate Imaging and Imaging the Sex and Gender Spectrum – as well as a change in format to include more audience engagement, debates and case-based presentations, according to SCCT President-Elect and 2025 ASM Program Committee Chair Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD, MSCCT.

“We’re mixing it up with a lot of case-based presentations, debates within the tracks and within the sessions, so it’ll be very engaging, and with the 20th year anniversary celebrations peppered throughout the meeting, I think it’s going to be fantastic. I’m excited for all of it!”

Some of the special events and features dedicated to the Society’s 20th year include a celebratory coffee break, take-home swag, an opening ceremony highlight and a dedicated session, with talks and presentations from the founders of SCCT, according to Dr. Chinnaiyan.

“We will hear from them on the early years, how this Society came to be and how the ASM has impacted the way in which we treat cardiovascular disease all over the world.” Session talks include:
  • How it all started: The road to the first ever SCCT annual meeting
  • On the shoulders of giants: Early technology - How cardiac CT came about
  • Evolving data that put cardiac CT on the map: landmark trials you should know
  • Cardiac CT in clinical practice guidelines (out in the open and somewhat hidden): where we are today and what to expect in the near future
  • 20 years in the making and still fresh: Looking to the future of SCCT

LOOKING BACK

Dr. Chinnaiyan, a cardiologist at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Heart & Vascular in Michigan, described this 20th anniversary as remarkable, going on to say, “[For] me personally, to have attended the first meeting as a fellow and to now lead the ASM program is really out of a dream — to have grown with the Society for 20 years in this way, I think is very magical.”

She said both the networking opportunities and inviting cardiac imaging community have been “an incredible gift” for the past 20 years, confessing “I’ve never left an ASM without being inspired and feeling like I belong to a bigger community.”

LOOKING AHEAD

During the opening session of the SCCT Global Meeting 2025 in Amsterdam, SCCT President Maros Ferencik, MD, PhD, MCR, MSCCT, announced that the Society’s membership surpassed 8,300 for the first time in 2024. “That’s a 51% increase over where we stood 5 years ago,” he said in his Presidential Update.

When asked how SCCT2025 will cater to the growing cardiac imaging community, Dr. Chinnaiyan said the meeting offers something for everyone, from the broad range of topics covered and the tracks for different audiences to sessions aimed at new practitioners entering the field and longtime veterans.

She said she’s eager to share with members all the hard work of the ASM Committee members in both their knowledge of the topics as well as their enthusiasm.

“This is one of those things that I love so much about SCCT in general, is the motivation that people bring to anything they do, and this ASM program is no exception. It’s been an honor and a privilege to work with this committee, and this is one of the highlights of this organizing process,” said Dr. Chinnaiyan.

“Even so many months before the meeting I feel enriched in that knowledge and excited by the enthusiasm that everybody has brought to this already, and everything else that will actually happen at the ASM will be the icing on the cake.”

The SCCT ASM is designed to engage physicians, trainees, technologists and healthcare professionals in a complete overview of the cardiovascular CT field. Planned sessions are targeted for all levels – from new practitioners to experienced providers. Sessions also range from general overviews to state-of-the-art research and expert discussions.

Sessions will cover topics such as structural heart disease, congenital heart disease, guidelines and trials, AI/machine learning, technical aspects of cardiac CT, coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.

Registration for the meeting is also open. Scientific Sessions will be held at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal.
