Arlington, VA – The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) hosted its Global Meeting in Budapest, Hungary, from January 18 to 19, 2024, accepting over 75 abstracts as part of the conference, nearly two times more submissions than in years past.

“It was my honor to host one of the largest SCCT Global meetings to date and welcome the world of cardiovascular CT to my hometown of Budapest,” said Program Committee Chair Pal Maurovich-Horvat, MD, PhD, MPH, FSCCT. “SCCT extends its congratulations to the winners of the Best Abstract and Rapid Fire awards for their exceptional work pushing the field of cardiovascular CT forward.”

The distinguished panel of 5 judges awarded Joleen Geers, MBBS with Best Abstract for her submission, “Aortic Valve Fibrocalcific Volume By Computed Tomography Angiography In Mild To Severe Aortic Stenosis: Sex-specific Comparison With Echocardiography."

Selected as top among the meeting’s 17 highest scored abstracts, Geers’ study uses a multicenter registry to investigate the relationship of fibrocalcific aortic valve tissue characteristics with disease severity and determine optimal fibrocalcific thresholds for diagnosing severe aortic stenosis.

New this year, the Rapid Fire Case Presentations featured 5-minute talks from five finalists whose abstracts received the highest reviewer scores. The judging committee – led by David Newby, MD, PhD, FMedSci and Gianluca Pontone, MD, PhD, FSCCT – selected winners based on originality, execution, presentation, SCCT relevance and impact.

Chiara Gnasso, MD received the top Rapid Fire score with her presentation, "In Patients Undergoing Tavi, Imaging Biomarkers Derived From Preoperative Ct Scan Predict Long Term Prognosis." Marta Belmonte, MD was the Rapid Fire runner-up with her abstract, "Predictors Of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Derived From Coronary Ct Angiography In Patients With Chronic Coronary Syndromes."

All awardees received a certificate and complimentary registration to a future SCCT educational event.

All abstracts from SCCT Global 2024 | Budapest are available in a special supplement of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT).
