Congenital Heart Disease in 2024: Webinar series (3 parts)
Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

The population of children & adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is growing exponentially as a result of improved outcomes of medical, surgical and catheter-based treatment strategies. Cardiac CT in CHD combines the knowledge and skill sets of both pediatric and adult cardiology and radiology.

The population of adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is growing exponentially as a result of improved outcomes of medical, surgical and catheter-based treatment strategies. As CHD patients live longer, there is a greater need for high resolution coronary imaging in addition to anatomic imaging, increased use of electrophysiology devices that are MRI unsafe, and higher prevalence of metallic implants that adversely affect MRI image quality. For these patients, CT is increasingly the preferred advanced imaging modality. CT in CHD combines the knowledge and skill sets of both pediatric and adult cardiology and radiology.

These three one-hour webinar series will explore CHD through the lens of CCT.

Technical considerations in congenital pediatric CT
Thursday, September 5 | 12noon - 1pm ET

Chair: Anu Dodeja, MD

Speakers:
Reena Ghosh, MD
Lindsay Griffin, MD
Kelly Han, MD
Sarv Priya, MD

Description:

This course will provide an overview of scanner basics, image creation, spatial and temporal resolution enhancement techniques, and specialized imaging protocols to minimize radiation in congenital and pediatric cardiac CT.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand scanner basics and image creation.
  2. Explore techniques aimed at enhancing spatial and temporal resolution in functional scanning and 3-dimensional processing.
  3. Explore specialized imaging protocols and techniques tailored to minimize radiation exposure.

CT evaluation of vascular rings and coarctation of the aorta
Thursday, September 26, 2024 | 12noon - 1pm ET

Chair: Spencer Barfuss, MD

Speakers:

Edem Binka, MD
Katherine Glover, DO
Aloha Meave, MD

Description:

This course will provide an overview of the utilization of cardiac CT in the evaluation of patients with suspected vascular rings and coarcation of the aorta. The use of cardiac CT to evaluate for post operative complications with also be addressed.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the incidence, presentation and anatomy of common variants of vascular rings and pulmonary vascular slings with CT examples.
  2. Explain technical considerations for CT acquisition in this population (including pitfalls). Describe the utility of virtual bronchoscopy and functional scanning.
  3. Describe coarctation of the aorta and the role of CT in the pre and post-repair evaluation including assessment for late complications.

Continuing Medical Education:

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Note: CME credit is preliminary and may increase or decrease incrementally as the program schedule evolves.
