Blumenthal named recipient of the Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award
Vienna, Va. (June 11, 2019) -- The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) will present Roger Blumenthal, MD, with the 2019 Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award at the SCCT 14th Annual Scientific Meeting, July 11 –14 in Baltimore, Maryland. The award recognizes individuals whose pioneering efforts have saved lives from coronary artery disease — the leading cause of death worldwide.
SCCT will recognize Blumenthal for his lifelong contributions to the optimal management of ischemic heart disease, noninvasive detection of coronary atherosclerosis, and the development of new strategies to optimize the management of cardiovascular disease risk factors.
“It is our pleasure to present this award to Dr. Blumenthal, whose notable contributions in preventive cardiology have made a lasting impact,” says SCCT President Suhny Abbara, MD, FSCCT. “We recognize his leadership, service and dedication to the highest ideals of patient care throughout his distinguished career.”
Blumenthal is the Director of Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and a professor of medicine at John Hopkins Medicine. His areas of research include cardiovascular risk assessment; heart disease in women; subclinical coronary atherosclerosis as measured by cardiac CT; hyperlipidemia; primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease; cardiac computed tomography; individuals with a family history of heart disease; and improved strategies for management of cardiovascular risk factors.
The Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award is named in honor of a visionary and pioneer in the field of noninvasive cardiac imaging and one of the world’s leading preventive cardiologists.
